Josh Moore plays Sonata #4 by Santórsola

Josh Moore, Guitar

American guitarist Josh Moore plays Sonata No. 4 Italiana (1977) by Italian-born Brazilian-Uruguayan composer Guido Santórsola (1904–1994). This comes via Guitar Salon International via their YouTube on a 2016 Luis Fernandez de Cordoba guitar. Nice playing by Moore with lots of tight musical lines to pull off. Santórsola was a composer, violinist, violist, viola d’amore player, and conductor. He wrote a ton of guitar works, you can see a long list at his wiki page. His music is an interesting mix of counterpoint, serialism, and Brazilian and Uruguayan influence. The concise lines really remind me of Hans Werner Henze, they are strict but there is a freedom as well.
