Sly and Cicchillitti perform Schubert’s Standchen

Philippe Sly and Adam Cicchillitti - Guitar & Voice

Canadian musicians Philippe Sly (Baritone) and Adam Cicchillitti (guitar) perform the well known lieder Standchen (Serenade) by Franz Schubert (1797-1828). This work, originally for piano and voice, was also arranged by Johann Kaspar Mertz for solo guitar and it is known that Schubert also didn’t mind hear guitar as the accompaniment to his lieder. There, bang, academic justification. That aside, guitar makes a lovely accompaniment to voice in this work. The cool movement in the video might have given me some serious motion sickness but it was worth it. I believe this was a CBC Radio-Canada project from 2013 but just appeared on Cicchillitti’s YouTube.
