Jérôme Ducharme plays Tedesco Op. 71

Jerome-Ducharme2

Canadian guitarist Jérôme Ducharme plays Variations à travers les siècles (Variations through Centuries), Op. 71 (1932) by Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895–1968). Nice to hear this early work by Tedesco which I’ve never actually heard before. He wrote this one just 2 or three years before the Sonata and Capriccio. I don’t think I would have been able to guess that it is Tedesco, except maybe for all the difficult chords. Ducharme’s YouTube blurb: “This is an excerpt from the Nov. 28th 2014 concert for the Maastricht Guitar Society. The piece opens with a Chaconne, then a prelude, a couple waltzes and ends with a jazzy fox-trot.”

  1. Great piece! Lorenzo Micheli has another great recording of it on his Naxos Guitar Recital CD from 2000. You should definitely check it out.
