Italian guitarist Lorenzo Micheli plays Passacaglia sul tema del Dies irae (no. 12) from 24 Caprichos de Goya op. 195 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968). This comes via Micheli’s great YouTube channel and with audio and video by Drew Henderson. Micheli is one of my favourite players with a clarity and musicality that is top notch. Beautiful phrasing here with crisp intervening lines snuck into the texture. More intensity around 2:10 followed by that depth and serious Dies irae at 4:25…can’t emphasize enough the importance of the Caprichos by Tedesco that we’re so lucky to have.
