Rafael Aguirre Plays Fantasía para un gentilhombre by Rodrigo

Rafael Aguirre performs the guitar concerto Fantasía para un gentilhombre by Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-1999) at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid with the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra and José Luis López Antón. This comes via his YouTube channel. Wonderful playing by Aguirre and the orchestra. The four movements are: I. Villano y Ricercar (Adagietto); II. Españoleta y Fanfare de la Caballería de Nápoles (Adagio – Allegretto); III. Danza de las Hachas (Allegro con brio); and IV. Canario. The four movements are based on six dances for solo Baroque guitar by the 17th-century Spanish composer Gaspar Sanz but reimagined in Rodrigo’s musical language.
