Tarleton’s Riserrectione by Dowland for Guitar

Tarleton’s Riserrectione by Dowland for Guitar

Tarleton’s Riserrectione (Poulton No. 59) by John Dowland (1563-1626) – Also called Tarleton’s Resurrection. Originally for lute. Sheet music and TAB for classical guitar. Includes a Notation Only Edition and a Notation + Modern TAB Edition. Left hand fingering. The level is Intermediate (Grade 6), generally straight forward but a few tricky chords shapes to jump into. You have to tune the 3rd string down to F# (Dowland’s lute tuning) for this edition (see the video below). John Dowland was an English Renaissance composer, lutenist, and singer. He is best known today for his melancholy songs and lute compositions. He’s one of my favourite composers of the Elizabethan era and all time.

Below is my performance and lesson on the piece but also check Matthew McAllister’s video below. YouTube Lesson Link.

Matthew McAllister playing from my edition. This comes via his amazing YouTube channel. It’s so fantastic to hear a great pro like McAllister play my score, his playing is so musical and so refined!

Why do guitarists use capos and 3rd string F# tuning?
