Alberto Mesirca performs Introduzione e Capriccio (Introduction & Caprice), Op. 23 by Italian guitarist and composer Giulio Regondi (1822–1872). This comes via the great Omni Foundation online series and their fantastic Youtube channel. As they mention in their description, “The Omni Foundation presents a special on-location video celebrating Giulio Regondi’s 200th birthday from inside a 16th century Venetian villa.” Brilliant performance by Mesirca with a sweet introduction followed by some blazing fast but surprisingly clean and articulated flourishes. I’ve never heard zippy playing quite like this before but it works for the showy nature of the caprice and never lacked nice phrasing and sweet spots.
