Classical guitarists Émilie Fend and Goran Krivokapić perform perform their arrangement Sonatas R. 89 in F Major and R. 21 in C-Sharp Minor by Antonio Soler (1729–1783). This comes via Altamira Guitars and their YouTube channel (go subscribe) and was performed on two Altamira Guitars. Amazing performance by two of my favourite solo players now in a duo. Incredible rhythmic precision, crisp ornaments, and beautiful ensemble phrasing. A short word via the Youtube description:
Antonio Soler (1729–1783) was a Spanish composer, organist, and music theorist of the late Baroque and early Classical periods. A Hieronymite monk, he spent most of his life at the El Escorial monastery near Madrid. He is best known for his virtuosic keyboard sonatas, often compared to those of his teacher Domenico Scarlatti.
Émilie & Goran: “We chose to transcribe these two sonatas by Antonio Soler after being drawn to their brilliant, light and playful character and strong Spanish flair. Adapting them for guitar duo required several adjustments, but they sit naturally in this instrumentation. The result is highly rewarding to perform: full of drive, clarity, and sparkle, they highlight both the energy and expressive depth of Soler’s music in a fresh, vibrant way.”
