What chair do I use for classical guitar?

Question: What Chair Do I Use for Classical Guitar?

I use chairs with an adjustable height and round edges for leg comfort. See the above video where I look at the best two chairs for classical guitar that I’ve found so far. One is a drum throne and the other an antique piano stool.

The Drum Throne I use via Amazon – Keep in mind that I hate how this one squeaks, but maybe all of them do? I should order a different brand to see if there is one that is silent.

Antique piano stool with talons – These were super common and they are readily available via ebay, etsy or your local antique store. I found mine at an antique store randomly while paying for some furniture, it was right there and newly refinished so I grabbed it at a great price.

  1. Thanks for the info. I went all out on a chair as the keyboard bench I bought squeaked and I wanted something adjustable w/ back support. I went with the Folding Musician’s Chair from Amazon and it is great.

  2. Yes, please provide the name of the company that sells the classical guitar chair made in North Carolina. Thanks!

  3. That is a pretty awful drum throne. You should definitely upgrade. You can get a beefier version similar to your antique piano stool that has a threaded shaft for height adjustment. I use a Gibraltar Motorcycle Style Drum Throne, 9808HM, that has a pneumatic height adjustment. I also play drums and my kids are always changing the height, so the pneumatic is nice. Probably not necessary if it is just you.

Anyway, you should stop suffering with that squeaky throne.

  4. I use “the classical guitar chair” designed by a physical therapist and made in North Carolina. It’s great. I also use the sage works guitar support, now no back or hip pain!
