This is a great little work around the grade 4 level in E minor. This is an excellent study of bass line melody with the thumb. Think in terms of creating a cello-like legato melody on the bass strings. Use guide fingers at first but then carefully ease off to reduce string noise. Julio Salvador Sagreras (22 November 1879 – 20 July 1942) was an Argentine guitarist, pedagogue, and composer. His many lessons are contained in a multi-volume method book that includes numerous studies. Here’s my Youtube Lesson Link if you want to watch it there.

Hi thanks, for this lesson and everything else you do! Sagreras’ notes on this lesson say to play the bass louder with the accompaniment softer. I have difficulty playing one note loud and the other soft at the same time lol. I was wondering if you could recommend a technique, study or exercise that concentrates on achieving this. Much appreciated and keep up the amazing work!
Hi,
So usually a deeper follow-through with the finger can help but there are also tons of basic exercises to work on. Here is a video on the topic: Right Hand Musical Balance
I am similar to Carolann in that I played in my youth (30’s) but life got in the way. Four children later I am not retired and am 81. The guitar is the joy of my life and I play several hours most days. You are a precious resource and I appreciate your presence in the guitar world very much.
I may be on your list since I have purchased from you in the past.
I really appreciate your lessons . Thank you so much for your generosity. I played classical guitar reasonably well in my twenties, then 3 kids, and life, got in the way. In my 70’s now and time, such a precious commodity, gives me someone like you to make me want to play again. Heartfelt thanks,
