Waltz Op.121, No.1 by Ferdinando Carulli (1770-1841). This is a quintessential classical era piece with a nice melody embedded in an arpeggiated accompaniment. Make sure to phrase and shape the melody and have it come out more than the accompaniment and bass. From loudest to softest: melody – bass – accompaniment.

  1. Hello

Firstly, thank you very much for all the hard work you put towards this website.

I would like to ask you about the rests in the Waltz Op.121. Do you suppose to stop the strings from ringing on the rest or just stop playing for the corresponding value it?

    Thank you, Marcel

    • I wouldn’t worry about it in this piece. You could stop the sound before sections treating the rest as a kind of breath mark but mainly just focus on the legato phrasing.
